I try to use this method. I take a lot of photos and then dump them onto my computer(s). I rarely get time to edit and post the really good ones. So I have tons of photos that need to be deleted, edited and posted. I'm try to delete them when they are still in the camera so I have less work and less photos taking up space.

I like that it is very small. I love taking photos but my Nikon DSLR is big and bulky and sometimes causes me to walk around with two bags. Even though the sensor is smaller which means it will capture a smaller area, it is great to have for a "photo walk" camera. It is also great as a replacement for a point and shoot if you like having manual control over your photos. If I go to an event like a wedding or something i'll most likely still bring my DSLR.

I've been looking for a point and shoot camera for a while. I know I will miss the ability to have more control over my photos so I never bought one. I was thinking of getting a Canon G11 or the Nikon P6000 or P7000, but now I might just wait and get this since I can change the lens :-). I need to learn more about it before I dish out all this money.

I just found out there is a Blogger app for Andriod phones. This is what I am currently using to type this post while I sit in my bed trying to fully awake myself. Is this new? If it's not, why didn't anyone tell me before ?!?!

I think I may never travel with a laptop anymore if I go away. My Epic has wifi, 4G, a keyboard, and a great screen. I can take photos and edit them all from my phone, thanks to picsay pro. Then I can post to flickr, blogger, tumblr, twitter and/or facebook all from my phone. :-D

My Phone Sucks at Taking Black and White Photos

I learned tonight that my phone's native camera can not take black and white photos. I have three other camera apps and they pretty much suck at black and white too.

FxCamera will only allow me to take photos no bigger than 720 x 480. Vignette demo has 4 or 5 different black and white settings. Some are better than others depending on the lighting. The app keeps defaulting back to .3MP instead of the 5MP I set it to the last time I used the app (I just noticed is not available in demo version). Retro Camera has 5 different cameras but only 4 can do black and white. Each of them puts spots or scratches in the photo to make them look old. Only one of them is some what decent, the Fudgecam but it adds a vignette around the photo. So I don't know if I can do this black and white challenge if my phone is shitty at it.
I think these two photos are the only ones that came out okay-ish:

At least it gives me pure black and white and not a lot of gray values, but I did take photos at night. Some of the photos Vignette took were only 318 wide and 13kb ...???? Over all, I think Retro Camera might be my best bet for black and white photos, even if it add spots, scratches and borders. Maybe I need to do another test when it isn't so cold outside.

I also took a lot of video footage of the Highline. I'll trying to make something of it. I'm sure most of it is unusable because it was dark, my hands were cold and I was trying to get footage before the park closed.

Lensbaby Lens

Due to this video. I may have to rethink my dislike for Lensbaby lens. I don't like how photos look so unpolished. Not in the same way that Lomomgraphy photos look unpolished. Most photos taken with Lensbaby lens look like they were messed up by accident and not on Purpose.

This video shows that the lens may be better used for video rather than still photos. If I ever get a DSLR with video, I may think about getting a lens.

Side note: I didn't know Kanye West sampled that song for his song Blame Game. Now I have to look for the original ...

One Camera, One Lens Project

I heart the Tumblog Tokyocamerastyle.com. In this post they mentioned the One camera, one Lens Project. I already did this last year, but in color and with my 50mm. Actually I didn't make it through the whole year. I should say 6 months. I wasn't planning to shoot a whole year with just my 50. I had gotten it as a gift and loved it so much. I wanted to get better at shooting, not worrying about what lens I had and made what I had work. Around the summer I stopped carrying my D60 with me every single day (which I'd done since I got it back in Feb 08). I only kept my phone on me to take photos.

I may get a 35mm lens in the next couple of weeks and then only shoot in black and white for a month or two ... or maybe 6 months. I really do want to get better at composition. Photography is about capturing light and not about what equipment or software you have. I may start shooting in black in white on my phone camera too.

I've had my 50 mm lens for almost a year now and I love it. For a while I was wondering what should be my next piece of equipment. My Nikon D60 came with a 18-55mm lens, I bought a Nikon SB-400 speed light a little over a year ago, I got the 50 as a present and I just bought a tripod a few weeks ago. I wanted a new lens but I didn't know what I should get. See, my camera doesn't have auto focus and if I buy a lens with auto focus, it's usually super expensive. On top of that there are so many different types of lens. I didn't really know which one was right for my specific camera until I found out about this website: lenshero.com.

All you do is just tell it what camera you have, your price range and what type of photo you are trying to achieve. It gives you a choice of lenses in your price range and explains each feature in terms anyone can understand. It even tells you where you can buy the lens. It suggested my next lens should be the Nikon Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX. Funny thing is that was the lens was leaning toward getting. It's a really helpful site and you should check it out.

When I'm done with the current scarf projects I'm working on, I'm finally going to move on to crocheting toys. I bought two amigurumi books and I haven't used them. Actually it may be three books. I can't remember because the majority of my books are still in boxes from my move. I bought a bunch of yarn last week and the week before. I only meant to buy yarn two weeks ago but the craft Store Michael's gave me a coupon for 25% off my entire order. I couldn't let it waste so I used it. They gave me another coupon ... I need to go back (help).

Blue Scarf for Friend #1

I promised my friend a scarf a long time ago. I never started on it because he told me he wasn't a scarf person. Now he tells me he is a scarf person. So I started on the scarf this week. I would have been further along but I started a pattern that didn't really work out so I unraveled part of it and started again.

I came to the Bronx today to visit my mom. So now I'm chilling on the couch waiting for the Giants game to start and crocheting. Hopefully the Giants play better this week. They've been playing horrible for the last two weeks.

I finished it this morning and then treated myself to white chocolate chip filled pancakes. They were so freaking good! I have a tub full of chocolate left over from the ice cream party at work. I need to find ways to finish it.

Now that I finished that scarf, I'm trying to decide whether I start on a scarf for my friend, a hat for me or finaly make a crochet toy.

This Phone is Epic!

I got me one of these:

It is a Samsung Epic 4G on the Sprint network. So far, I like it a lot. The camera is great. In a few days I'll probably do a review on the camera. Not like anyone will see it, but I like the camera so much I'll do it anywhy :-).

The summer is almost over (yey). I am more of a Spring and Autumn type of person the past couple of years. Hopefully I'll go around Manhattan taking photos, especially of the changing leave colors in Central Park with my new phone.

Autumn also means scarf weather. My bestie asked me to make him a scarf. He lives up in Rochester, NY; their winters are very brutal. I'm going to have to explore the yarn shops around where I live and start crocheting again.

Starting Over with The Purple Scarf

When I created the purple scarf months ago I used the wrong stitch. Actully, I started the scarf years ago and then finished it up months ago. I had planned on leaving it at my mom's apt so I had something to do while hanging out with my mom. I mean, I don't always have to go to her apt to fix something or celebrate an event.

When the scarf was done I was relieved but unsatisfied. It looked horrible. It was wider on one side than it was on the other. The begining stitch looked way different than the stitch I ended up using. I told myself I would unravel it and do it over when I finished the other projects. The green hat isn't done but I couldn't wait. I need specail black yarn to finish the green hat. I have more yarn but not sure what to make. Plus my crochet books are still in boxes.

So this is what I have so far and yes those are my toes.

Entering the World of Lomography

My coworker needed to go to the art store to buy spray paint. I tagged along with him because I love the art store. I helped him pick out a blue color to use to paint on his skateboard ... oh did I forget to mention I have a blank skateboard and I will be designing it soon? .. cause I do :-D. Anyway, I wondered into another alse and found a table filled with toys cameras aka Lomography cameras.

I could not walk away. My co worker got on line, paid, came back and I was still there. I've always wanted the Diana F+ camera but I figured it is doing something my d60 is already doing, so I wanted to get the Fisheye camera. I wanted the Diana F+ kit which comes with all the lens and attachments and also cost about $250. I just spent so much money moving, I could spare to spend any more money. I don't have a Fisheye lens and getting the camera would have been perfect. My coworker had to drag me away. It helped that I was hungry and we hadn't eaten lunch yet.

The Lomography store is not far from my job. It is located on West 8th and 6th AVE. I headed over there after work to basically drool over all the photographs and photography equipment. I ended up getting the Fisheye 2 camera, Diana F+ hotshoe flash and 3 rolls of film. Yes, they are film cameras. It is actually so much fun to take weird photos and wondering how they are going to come out. I heart my new toy.

A Visit to The Stockinette Knitting Cafe

I've been meaning to write this post since forever. So much has happened in the last couple of months. I haven't had the time or clear mind to do it. I haven't even crocheted anything in months. Such a shame. I think it is mostly because I am trying to finish the green hat but I need more yarn.

A friend of mine had an early Saturday morning baby shower in March. I complained about the time because I'm use to going to baby showers in the afternoon, NOT 10 am. It was a nice event. I was able to see people I use to work with that I haven't seen in a while. Afterward, I went to The Stockinette Knitting Cafe which is Jersey City's only knitting and crochet store. The store was only a few blocks away from the restaurant where the baby shower was held.

The Cafe is very cozy. When you first walk in there is a sitting area by the window with a couch where people knit or crochet. The day I walked in, the owner was giving a small class. As you walk further in, there are a couple of tables and chairs to eat or drink. Toward the back is the register and coffee shop part of the cafe. The yarn is located in shelves and bookcases along the sides of the cafe. The cafe was actually smaller than I thought it would be but had a small town cafe charm to it. I read they have comedy nights, which leads me to wonder where?!? The only thing I can think of is that they own the space next door, which was closed off, and that is where they have bigger classes and comedy nights.

I went in looking for more yarn to finish up my green hat. She didn't have it and apparently vendors do not sell products to shops that are with in a certain distances from each other outside of NYC. She told me the shop in Hoboken might have the yarn I need. I didn't leave the place empty handed. I ended up buying blue yarn to make one of my best friends a scarf or something else. The shop owner rang me up but had to get back to her (paying) class, so I was able to unravel and wind my yarn myself. It was kind of cool; she set up the yarn and I just wound it myself. I would go back, mostly for the charm and the nice people. I just hope they get a better selection of yarn.

Green Hat

I started on the green hat ... I think right after I finished the blue-green scarf. I should have been finished a while ago, I just haven't been in the mood or super tired when I get home. Hopefully things get better. I also need to make a yarn run. I'm thinking of going during lunch tomorrow.

This isn't even the photo I wanted to upload. I took a bunch of photos but when transferring them to my computer, that is when I noticed that after the upgrade on my Palm Pre my photo count went back to 0. So the file names of the photos were in the tens and over wrote some other photos I had.

9 Hour Phone that Stamps Holes in Snow People

On Saturday Palm released an update for their WebOS. I tried the night before and it wasn't available yet, so when I woke up, I rolled over, picked up my phone, checked emails, checked txt msgs and saw WebOS 1.4 was available. I was excited because this update was bringing video to the Palm Pre. Unfortunately my update didn't go as smoothly as the previous updates. My Phone froze on restart. I was in contact with Palm and Sprint reps and I had to head to a repair store to get it fixed. 9 hours later, I had WebOS 1.4 on my phone. I was so excited the first thing I did when I left the store was take video of the area.

I had to drop my phone off for about an hour and a half. While I waited, I had a huge ass burrito at Qdoba. It didn't hit me until after dropping off my phone that I hadn't eaten since around 9 am. I left my phone with Sprint at 4:46 pm and that burrito was the last thing I ate all day (HUGE), lol.

After I ate, I went walking around. I remember Jen telling me there was a craft store on 18th Street (or something like that). I never found the store because I ended up in a paper supply store called Print Icon. I've seen this store before because my friend use to work on this block years ago, but I never stepped foot inside. I had to stop myself from buying purple paper or purple envelopes. I don't have anyone to write to :-/. These are the times I wish I had my phone. I wanted to take pictures of everything. They had a massive and beautiful purple paper press machine in the back. I think I might go back just to take a photo of it. I tried to walk out the store without buying something but I ended up buying a special stamp that helps hide your address on paper you want to throw out. It saves times because you can just stamp the paper and throw it out instead of shredding the paper to pieces to hide your personal information.

What made my day was the Mini Craft Punch kit I bought. I think it's targeted for kids, but I'm pretty sure I'm not done growing up (sometimes I wish I could go back). It contains 15 mini paper hole punchers in different designs. I managed to walk by them twice and tell myself no. It was the third time when I saw the tulip (my favorite flower) and penguin design that I was sold. So now I can put holes in my paper, stamp them, then throw them away, lol. I can say, I will have lots of pretty confetti.

After I got my phone back, I walked down to Washington Square Park. Even though I work in this area, I still end up here during the weekends. I took a few photos while walking through the park and saw these guys. Apparently someone created them the day before or earlier in the day and the warm-ish (40 degrees) weather melted them.

Any Event with Owls is A-Ok with Me

Jen and I went to the opening party of an Art Exhibition last night. It was so snowy, slippery and windy, we walked right past the building. When we got to the other side of Houston ST is when I noticed the numbers on the building were lower than the address of the building. Jen's reaction to the thought of having to cross the icy and slippery street again, made me laugh.

We finally get to the building and go upstairs to the exhibit. The artist is Lisa Grue and the Exhibit is called: Owls Have More Fun. The place was a little smaller than we thought it would be, but it was still nice. People were mostly talking to each other while Jen and I made our way across the room to look at the art.

On the floor was a huge rug filled with owls *squeals*. Oh if you didn't know, I <3 Owls. It's the whole reason why we trekked in the snow to go to the event. if you haven't guessed by now, I want that rug!

On the wall were hand-printed porcelain plates that the artist designed. The one below was my favorite. I liked look the owl was giving the viewer.

Blue-Green Scarf is Done

Early morning photo shoot ... well not really that early. I finished the scarf Tuesday and took photos in the morning on Wednesday before I left for work. It was cloudy outside and raining so I wasn't getting good sunny morning light. I bumped up my ISO and used my sb-400 flash, but I normally dial down my flash so it isn't UFO bright. I swear my bear is becoming a really good model. Next I'll have to put him in some GQ poses or something. I might have to use sticks to prop him up and photoshop them out ... oh ... sound like it's getting complicated ... I'll see. I also decided to photograph him in my computer chair so I have a black background instead of in the living room under my counter to use the white background. Very soon I am going to invest in different color fabrics to have different color backgrounds.

Oh yeah the scarf. It's just a double crochet scarf. And as I typed that last sentence, I just remembered I didn't finish the scarf correctly. I mean you would never notice looking at it unless you truly examined the scarf. I was running out of yarn and patience and just finished it before the yarn was done, oh well. The scarf is about 4 feet 5 inches before blocking. I haven't washed it yet so I don't know how long it will get; probably about 5 feet.

I'm Gonna Get Ya

I know, I know, I drew the bow wrong. I drew it correct on the first sketch I did on my sticky note. He is going to miss anyway. Don't worry the little guy with the flame thrower will get him ... ah dammit, I forgot to draw the one with the shot gun. Oh well next time.

On a side note, my coworkers were talking about ZILF, LILF, and RILF today. If you know what a MILF is, you get the idea. Not to mention one of them tried to attack me with their butt. I work with weirdos, sigh ...

Multicolor Purple Hat

So I accidentally finished the purple hat. I went out with Mellowbeing after work on Friday and when I got home, I wasn't tired so I worked on the hat. Then today I kind of finished it up. It came out better than the Blue-Green hat, but I think next time I'm going to try 9dc in the second row instead of 13dc. Hopefully the hat will be a little bit more snug. Either way, I like it :-). Also probably the first and last time I'll model an item. I'm not photogenic ...

So now that the purple hat is done. I will go back to the Blue-Green scarf and try to finish it up in a couple of days ... or should I start on the green hat? Hmmmm ...

Impatient

Guess who started working on the purple hat last night?
I know I should finish the blue-green scarf first but I want to wear the purple hat sooooo badly. I even used a hook that is two sizes too big. I'm curious to see how that effects the design. I already know I messed it up. I have to unravel it when I get home. I was so tired, I added 14 dc's instead of 13 in the second row.

Okay I'll just finish up the blue-green scarf and stop jumping around on projects ...

Frederickvan Scarf

I made my friend a scarf and decided to share the pattern. The colors are based on his branding logo which are red and black. It only makes sense to name the scarf and pattern after him. He’s a Photographer, Marketer, ... and a whole bunch of other stuff. If you want to learn more or see his work visit: frederickvan.com.

It took me about 5 days to finish it. I mostly worked on it when the CMS at work went down, on the bus ride to work, waiting for the train or late at night (I’m a night owl). He’s really tall so I was trying to make the scarf long. When I finished, it was about my height, but when I washed it and laid it out to dry (blocking), it stretched to be even taller than me; I think it is about his height. The pattern is loosely based on a bag I saw. I liked it so much I wanted to make it into a scarf.

I didn’t think to share the pattern until after I made the scarf. It’s a fairly easy pattern. I have in-progress photos, but not “how to” in progress photos, sorry. If you use this pattern link back to this post and let me know so I can show off your work :-).

Materials

2 skeins Cascade Yarns Soft Spun 100% Peruvian Highland wool in Black (2807)
1 skein Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Hand Dyes 50% royal alpaca / 50% merino in Red (2000)
1 #8/H (5.00MM) hook

The Scarf

Key:
sl: slip stitch
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet

Note:
I had to choose two different types of yarn because they didn’t have any black alpaca and I really liked the feel of alpaca and the red was the exact color I wanted. The gage for both yarns were the same, so it wasn’t much of a problem. When it comes time to change colors, it gets a little tricky because the alpaca is silky and the wool can pull apart. I was so worried about finishing the scarf and getting it shipped in time that I forgot to count how many black rows I crocheted. I have a good guesstimate because I know how many red rows I made and how long it measures. Either way, you can make the scarf to the length that is comfortable for you.

Start with red yarn
Row 1: ch 26
Row 2: 25sc starting from the second chain from the hook (ch# 25); ch3 (counts as a dc)
Row 3: 2dc in every other stitch. You should end up with 11dc pairs. In the last stitch 1dc; ch3
Row4 -14: repeat Row 3
Row 15: repeat Row 3, except do not ch3

You should now have 1ch row, 1sc row, and 13 red dc rows. You need to switch colors to the black yarn and then ch3

With black yarn
Row 16: 2dc in every other stitch. You should end up with 11dc pairs. In the last stitch 1dc; ch3
Row17 -105*: repeat row 16
Row 106: repeat row 16, except do not ch3

switch colors back to red yarn and then ch3
With red yarn
Row 107: 2dc in every other stitch. You should end up with 11dc pairs. In the last stitch 1dc; ch3
Row 108 - 119: repeat row 107
Row 120: 2dc in every other stitch. You should end up with 11dc pairs. In the last stitch 1dc; ch1
Row 121: sc in every stitch
Row 122: sc in every stitch. sl to end

* I forgot to count how many rows of black I used. I reversed engineered the amount by the length of the scarf, the measurement of the red section and rows used in red section (I <3 math). Make the scarf as long as you want.

When you are done, you can use this blocking technique from craftnectar.com that mellowbeing found and sent to me. I washed the scarf in Woolite but I’m sure you can use whatever detergent you currently have.

Blue-Green Scarf

So after I finished the scarf for my friend, I started working on the scarf to match the Blue-Green hat. It's taking me longer than the previous scarf because I don't have a deadline like I did with the last scarf. Plus I am using a double crochet in every hole and a thinner yarn. I've only been working on it for about a week. Not to mention, I was at work late almost every day last week so I didn't touch it when I got home or during my commute home.

I really want to start on the purple hat. I bought a multicolor purple yarn a few weeks ago and I am dying to start the hat. I only have #8, #9 and #10 hooks. The yarn states I should use #6. So I will either use what I have, order a full set online or cave and head to Purl Soho, or the other two yarn stores close by my job. We'll see ...

He Likes it!

OMG! The suspense was killing me. I think I'm going to tell people when I am doing something for them from now on. I can't take the waiting. The package was waiting at his job for almost a week because he was out of the office for a while. He finally got the package and opened it today. He likes it, so now I can post photos.

I'm only posting one photo for now. I will post the rest another time with the instructions on how to make it. I like giving back and helping out :-).

The Gift is Done

I finished the scarf .. I just noticed I said scarf before, so even if he does follow my blog (doubt it) he knows it is a scarf, that's what happens when you work 10 hrs days at work and get little sleep. I finished it on Sunday after my brother drove me home from hanging with family to watch the Super Bowl. I brought it with me to my mom's apt so I could work on in during my 2 hour trip home to The Bronx and before the game.

I bought Woolite and washed it tonight. I was so paranoid about it not being long enough, but now after I washed it, it stretched. I used the directions on this blog that Mellowbeing sent to me. I think it might be close to 6 feet. Now, I'm wondering if it is too long because I don't know how he wears his scarves. I hope it settles into itself while it dries. I also hope it is dry by the morning.

I Got The Last One

So I went to the yarn store during lunch. I brought with me the label from the finished yarn and the project in case they didn't have the yarn I needed and wanted to sell me something similar. For a small shop, Purl Soho always has customers in there. No matter what time I stop or pass by.
I gave one of the workers the label, he went searching and pulled out the last skein of yarn in that color. I was so happy. I didn't want to finish up the black section with a different material. Nor did I want to travel down to the wall street area to the other store I know about because at the time I thought I had to go to a baby shower the next day and needed the time after work to shop for a gift. Turns out the baby shower is in a month.

Hopefully I will finish this project tomorrow, take photos and then finish up the blue-green scarf to match the hat. I also might start on making baby booties and a hat since I have to go to a baby shower in a month ...

I Ran Out Of Yarn

I'm making a scarf for someone and I ran out of black yarn this morning. I was sure I bought enough because the scarf has more than one color. I kept debating on whether or not to just use what I have or go back to the store to get more and make the scarf longer. He is tall and I don't know how he wears scarves so I have to make it long enough for him to wear it how he pleases.

I am about 75% done and I started on Tuesday .... well actually Monday night. I bought the yarn Monday at lunch, started the scarf Monday night, but Tuesday night I unraveled the scarf about three times and started over. So I count it as if I started making the scarf Tuesday night. I really only get a chance to crochet at night when I get home from work (which has been around 10 pm last few days). I try to crochet on the bus in the morning depending on how many people are on the bus or which bus I take. I don't crochet on the train. Mostly because I am not a puppet show.

I can't put up photos yet because it is a surprise gift. I highly doubt he knows about or follows this blog, but just in case, I don't want to spoil the surprise. I will say I'm using 100% Peruvian Highland wool and 50% royal alpaca / 50% merino :-).

I'll make another yarn run during lunch today .. oh yeah and get lunch too ...

Dolphins

So my friend told me when he was younger he got dolphins tattooed on his arm. I was teasing him and told him they probably have hearts all around them. So I quickly sketched up these three drawing and texted them to him. He laughed and said that one of these is actually close to the tattoo he had. He went and got another tattoo drawn over the dolphins.

The drawings took about 10 minutes or so. Scanning them and cleaning them up took the longest. I drew these on scrap paper and the writing on the other side came threw when I scanned the drawing. So I was mostly cleaning up the words and cleaned up the drawings a little bit. I didn't touch the drawings too much because they were meant to be sketches.

Purple Scarf Update

So I finished the purple scarf last week before I started on the hat. I messed up the scarf too, lol. The problem was, I started the scarf last summer and forgot what stitch I was using. Actually forgot to use the right stitch. I was using a slip stitch instead of a single crochet stitch. When I started it, I made the scarf very very wide. I forgot how to level up and as a result the scarf kept getting smaller. I finally finished it but I am going to unravel everything and start over. This time I will probably use a double crochet stitch or make up some design that won't take so long. Practice makes perfect.

Blue-Green Hat Update

So the hat is bascially done, but I messed up so many times. I am going to finish it, try it on then pull out about 10 rows to fix it. Some how I kept expanding the hat and then I tried to start decreasing which helped a lot but the hat was already still too wide. I want the hat to look better and be wearable instead of it living in a box and labeled as my "first hat". That is why I am going to unravel most of the rows, up to where I can see I started messing up and start over. It might take me longer because I have another project I have to start this week.

I am going to make a scarf for my friend. I was supposed to go to the yarn store this week but never got the time. I was going to go today but I was so tired and drained form this week, I never made it out the house. The yarn shops close anywhere from 5:30pm to 6pm on Saturdays. It takes me about an hour to get to Manhattan on the weekends because public transportation sucks on the weekends. Plus I don't want to go in there at the last minute because I am not sure what I want and I need to browse. I'll either try tomorrow and met up with my friend Pat for lunch or something, or go on Monday during lunch.

Purple Scarf

I'm making progress on my purple scarf. I started this in the summer and intended to leave it at my mom's apt so I had something to do while over there if I slept over. I started working on it again last week. I pulled out so many rows and did them over, I'm finally moving forward. I haven't crocheted in a while. I thought I was using a single crochet but I was using a slip stitch so it looks like I knitted the scarf.

I'm hoping to be done by the end of this week so I can start on my hat.

Original purpose

About two years ago (2008) my coworkers and I decided to do a one-a-day project. I didn't know what to do so Jen (mellowbeing.com) suggested that I use the vector pictures that come with Photoshop and create a graphic design piece with them everyday. I also wanted to get better at drawing so I decide to draw as well. At the time I had all the time in the world, so I was able to do both everyday (five days a week). After a while I started to have a creative block or I was busy and I couldn't keep up. I then decided to stop the Photoshop part and just draw. I started graduate school and work at my job became very hectic. Last year I only posted work about seven times. This year I would like to get back to drawing and updating this blog. Which leads to it's new purpose.

New Purpose

I decided to make this my "being creative" blog. I love Art and Design. Photography and drawing both fall under one of those categories. Last year I didn't draw a lot but I was taking a lot of photos. One of the classes I took in graduate school was a photography class which made me buy my Nikon D60. I also started crocheting again this year (January 2010). I learned how to crochet when I was about 9 years old and recent events lead me to start practicing/making things again. I am going to use this blog to post sketches, drawings, doodles, digital art, progress on items I am crocheting or sewing and my favorite photos that I take.

Origin of the Name

Enchanted Droppings is a spin off of special crap, or a polished turd. My stuff is crap but it's special crap :-). I also have a thing for faeries and faeries are enchanted.

Back To the Drawing Board in 2010

I know I've fallen off. I have been drawing, but more like doodling. I actually drew some stuff but left it at work. I don't go back to work until next year, so maybe then I will upload them.

I decided in 2010 I am going to tap into my creative side more. I spend more time taking photos but I am going to split the time and draw more or maybe just do both 50% more. My aunt was in the hospital right before Christmas. I visited her on my birthday. While I was there I drew one of my characters on the whiteboard that usually displays who was the day and night nurse. She called me the next day to tell me she keeps looking at it and thinks it's cute. I was glad I could draw something to intrigue her and give her something pleasant to think about.

Anyway, sob story over, next year means more drawing, I promise.

My supervisor/project lead or whatever he is to us, was irritated last week. His son was sick and he only had 3 hours of sleep. So Mellowbeing and I tried to cheer him up or make him feel better most of the day. One of the things I did was draw out the Youtube page of Eddy Murphy's song Party all the Time. My supervisor came in one day singing it and got it stuck in everyone's head. Plus he kept doing a dance that had Mellow and I cracking up. The sketch was done very quickly because we had just gotten back from lunch and I didn't want to spend too much time on it since we have lots of work and tight schedules. Plus I was trying to finish before he got back to his desk. He did end up smiling.

School Starts Again

School starts for me tomorrow. I enroll in an MFA program in Grad school. The last time I was in school was three years ago when I graduated from undergrad school. I'm half excited and half scared because I do not know what to expect. I just hope the students are cool and I make new friends. I also hope the teachers are understand and cool. This also means I might not have new drawings for a while. Or it could be that while I am watching videos or looking through text books I will have time to draw and be inspired. I can't remember the joke. A couple of weeks ago, my co-worker was eating nuggets and something happen which made her say something like "run away nugget" or "nugget bandit". We had to take a mandatory online harassment course which took about 2 hours out of our day. I understand it is needed to let everyone know the differences between good, questionable, and bad conduct. But most of the examples were so out there, theatrical and over the top. For example. There was a scene where they had an illustration of an office and there were different things scattered around the office and you had to decide if it was good, questionable or bad. They showed a list on the fridge that said something like "Signs you are a Bad leader: you wear a bra, you don't wear short skirts, you have monthly mood swings". There was one more item but I forgot what it was. WTF?!! lol mellowbeing and I kept saying during the training "what?!", "OMG" or just laughing. There were many parts you could not skip and the instructor kept talking and talking. During that time I was chatting with anomaa or drawing. There was a quiz at the end and I got a perfect score. I told mellowbeing I was going to take a screen shot and put it up on facebook, to show how awesome I am. Lol

Yeah I know I suck because I stopped updating this blog. I will continue, its just that I have so many things on my mind and I have artist block. Not to mention I think I might have missed the deadline to get my portfolio in for grad school so they can assign me the appropriate classes. So I been forcing myself to finish up my portfolio last week and this weekend. I wanted it to be done by the middle of July. Actually, the Admission Rep said he would contact me again in two weeks, which was the middle of July. Ha! That didn't happen. Then I wanted to be done before August hit. Heh. I am about 70% done, but that is not good enough. Below is one of the drawings I've been working on.

Yes it is still a drawing that is part of the problem and it is not even a finished drawing because there is more stuff I want to add to it. Plus I am deciding if I will color it in using pencils, or scan it and color it using photoshop. Either way I'm still not done.
I would try and spend today working on my portfolio but my mom is going away and wants to see her kids before she leaves. So I have to troop my way up to The Bronx today. Le sigh ...

We had a 3 hour long early morning meeting Thursday. I was fine in the beginning, but then I started to drift off. Especially since I didn't go to bed early the night before. To help me stay awake, I drew what I saw outside the window. The thing on the left is supposed to be an orange slice from my co-workers plate. Then he ate it so I had to draw from memory ... my memory needs adjusting. The pointy building in the background is the Empire State Building. I never finished the drawing cause the sugar in the cranberry juice started to kicked in.
I also counted how many times the female presenter said "ah". The number was somewhere around 30.

I thought I was only a week behind in sketches but I just back tracked and it is more than that. I know I am three weeks behind in Photoshop entries, but I am only counting two weeks because I meant to post this post since last weekend.

So mellowbeing was right. A sketch and a photoshop entry a day is too much. I was actually keeping up until something happened to me to turn my life upside down. I'm trying to get everything back to somewhat normal, even though my life was never normal. This kind of works out for the better, because when grad school start for me in the fall, I probably wont be able to keep up. Plus I can give the photoshop entires more time and effort since I am mostly working on it at night/early morning. Maybe they will come out better.

So the new rules are a sketch a day but a photoshop entry a week; two a week if I'm feeling frisky. All this starts after I catch up on the two weeks backlog of PS entries.

This is what I was working on most of Saturday. I sketched this a long time ago and scanned it to color in Gimp. Coloring by mouse is not that easy. So I had to finish it in Photoshop on my tablet PC. This is why I didn't do my usual catch up on the weekend. Sunday I learned the hard way that malls close on Easter. Some stores were open, but most were closed. I ended up going to the movies to watch "The Bank Job" (I forget movies should have quotes or underlines?). I love the British language ... oh the movie was smashing as well.
